5 Rules for Preparing Your Home to Sell

South Florida real estate

It takes a lot of work to get your house ready to go on the market. If you want your home to sell for top dollar and in a short amount of time. it needs to be sparkling clean, free of clutter, and appealing to a large audience. There are certain things you can do to drastically improve your home’s appeal.

1. Create a Neutral Style
One of the biggest mistakes home sellers make when selling their homes is keeping too much of their own personal style. Although some people may love the way your home is decorated, everyone’s style is different — and your goal as a seller is to appeal to as many potential buyers as possible. This will give potential buyers room to envision how they could decorate the house with their very own personal style.

2. Choose Gender-Neutral Colors
A great way to create a universally appealing style in your home is to use neutral colors. Shades of cream, off-white and taupe tend to be best for creating a cozy, welcoming environment, without being overpowering. If you have something along the lines of a hot pink bedroom or flowered wallpaper, consider repainting with a more neutral tone.

3. Give Every Room a Purpose
If you have a miscellaneous room in your house, you should think of what a future owner could use the room for. Could it be a bedroom? An office? Perhaps an exercise room? For the sake of selling your house and maximizing your sales process, consider converting the room into something definitive and useful. This will make your home seem larger and add more value.

4. Boost Curb Appeal
It’s extremely common for potential buyers to drive by a home before deciding if they want to take a tour. Likewise, its imperative to make a great first impression when a buyer comes to tour. Therefore, it is crucial to make the outside of your property look as clean and attractive as possible. Ways to improve the curb appeal of your home include:
Power washing the roof, siding, sidewalk and driveway
Mowing the lawn
Adding fresh mulch
Planting flowers, bushes and other alluring landscaping
Washing windows
Adding a fresh coat of paint to porches or garage doors

5. Cover Pet Damages
While you love your furry friend, prospective buyers may not love what they have done to the house. So if you have pets , it’s important to repair any damage that they may have caused. This includes cleaning carpet stains, repairing furniture or planting lawn seed if necessary. Be sure to get all rugs steam cleaned to remove pet odors before showing the home as well.
